SWEDISH
As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart.
DEEP TISSUE
Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in relieving chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints.)
PRENATAL
Starting after your 1st trimester, we offer a soothing massage that compliments your prenatal care. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling). In addition, massage reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension-which aids in better sleep-and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes. Our experienced, NYS licensed massage therapists place you in a side-lying position to encourage optimal circulation for you and baby. Safe during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
HOT STONE
The premise behind hot stone massage therapy is that the direct heat of the stones relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist access to their deeper muscle layers. Combining hot stone protocols with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation
CELLULITE REDUCTION
The cellulite massage works on different levels. It improves circulation, softening the fatty areas and release them over time. The kneading and gentle rubbing soothes the tension in the muscles and improves the blood flow. The massage works is through targeting the lymphatic system and draining the accumulated fluids often associated with cellulite. It can break up the fatty deposits and expel excess water. It is also great for the disposal of the toxins that have settled between the tissues. Often the fatty lumps that cause cellulite are due to our body toxins. A massage will work through these fatty lumps and eventually rid them from our body.
CRANIAL
Think of the most subtle and gentle form of massage you can imagine and you will have an idea of what cranio-sacral massage therapy feels like. Individuals with chronic pain problems may benefit from this light touch technique. Can be used to treat migraine and tension-type headaches.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Aspects of sports massage therapy are gaining popularity as useful components in a balanced training regimen. Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance. One of the key benefits of Sports massage therapy compared to other modalities is its ability to target muscle-tendon junctions.
PEDIATRIC
Children ages 10-17 can be treated with parental consent on file in their chart. A modified massage therapy is chosen with the therapist and the parent, who has to be present for the entire visit.
