It's never too late to follow your dreams

September 1, 2018

I started my fitness career later than most people would normally start. But in my belief, if you love what you do then age is only a number. I always worked out, but while running my local school district’s Adult Ed program, I received a phone call from a wonderful person named Darlene who was looking to bring her style of exercise and fitness to the program.

One thing led to another, and we went from her working for me to me working for her. Darlene opened her own fitness studio, and I helped with office work. After two years of watching all the instructors and seeing the love they had for their clients and for what they did, I started to think, “why not me?” I could do this. I am comfortable being in front of people. I love the workouts, and I had great mentors who inspired me to go for it.

So, I embarked on a second career. My concept for my teaching is to make my clients have fun while they workout, make sure everyone is sweating, and most of all, to show I care.

Every class I work to prove that it doesn’t matter your age, size, or ability – you can still get a great workout. I currently have five certifications: Zumba B1, Zumba B2, Zumba Core, Barre Above, and my latest being Zumbini which I am excited to bring to Medwell in the fall.

What is Zumbini? Created by Zumba, the global leader in dance fitness, and BabyFirst, the global leader in educational programing for babies, Zumbini® is an early childhood education program that uses original music and movement to promote cognitive, social, fine/gross motor skill, and emotional development from children ages 0 - 4, all while creating the ultimate bonding experience for families. My Zumba and Barre class schedule is: Wednesday – 8pm Zumba (Bellmore) Friday – 7pm Barre (Bellmore) Saturday – 9am Zumba (Bellmore) For my Zumbini schedule, you can check out my Facebook page, “Zumbini with Irene” or you can contact Medwellspa for more information.
